My investing journey began in a unique way. Someone told me how they made money in real estate without ever seeing the property, owning property or getting a mortgage. I was a golf pro from the UK now living in the US, and I didn’t know the first thing about real estate.
What I did know, however, is that I was searching for an online business so I could generate income from anywhere in the world, and real estate investing seemed like the perfect vehicle to take me to the lifestyle I wanted (and needed). Being from the UK, I was used to having time off and being able to travel. Living in the US, I found that most traditional career paths don’t really allow for either.
One conversation set me on the path to where I am today. I was visiting with my family in the UK and we went on a mini vacation to a little quaint place called St Ives, Cornwall, located in England. I ended up having a random conversation in a coffee shop. This man was a property investor who wholesaled properties in the UK. He said something that stuck with me… “I’m a property investor but I don’t see houses”. This obviously piqued my interest because it didn’t make any sense. He added that I could do this in the US from the UK right now and with my personality I would be great. To cut a long story short he put me in touch with his coach he learned from, and the next thing I knew, I was borrowing $10,000 to learn how to start wholesaling real estate virtually. Hundreds of deals later, that was the best investment I’ve ever made.
This didn’t come from procrastinating, attending 100 webinars or thinking I needed to have all the answers. I just needed the blueprint and guidance to be successful. If you pair this with massive action, self belief and the willingness to never give up, you will achieve everything you dreamed of in life.
What is REI Network?
I have never done a real estate deal all on my own.
I created REI Network because I truly believe that in this business you are nothing without the right network behind you. I have never — I repeat, never — done a real estate deal all on my own.
My very first deal I ever closed came from a networking event. If you've ever been to a local real estate meetup, there's usually a point where everyone gives a little 30-second commercial about themselves. When it was my turn I stood up and very honestly told them, "I don't have any money to generate leads, but I do have time, and I can close. If you have any old leads that you want me to work for you, then connect with me after." A couple of people came up to me, and one woman said she had an old list she'd be happy to give me, and we'd split anything that came from it. I took her list of "dead leads" and closed a deal out of the first 20 sellers I spoke to.
From that day forward I knew I'd made the right decision in taking this chance, and I knew I was never going to do it all on my own. REI Network is a community and a support system for investors at any point in their investing journey. Welcome.
